Mamajah's Farm Inspired by the bounty of Mother Earth, Mamajah does its part

Mamajah (Mother Nature, in Creole) is an eco-solidarity company, active since 1995, structured as an association under Swiss law, recognized as being of public utility. With its eco-services (Nature Structures, tents and natural decorations), its educational farm and its organic baskets, Mamajah shares an innovative model of ecological and solidarity entrepreneurship, working for collaboration with the Living and Biodiversity in all its forms.

From the Mamajah association to La Ferme de Mamajah

Since 2013, the Mamajah Association has had an agricultural area of 3 ha, on a plot leased from the State of Geneva, ideally located on the Loëx peninsula, in the heart of the Wild Rhône Loop; on a walking route linking the nearby town, this eco-site, both productive and educational, is dedicated to organic production and the awakening of children and the general public. True to its mission, Mamajah is developing a place for meetings, experimentation and transmission in Loëx, a rural eco-design laboratory where vegetables and relationships are grown together. For a day or a camp, the Jardins de Mamajah welcome children from nurseries and schools, company outings, private celebrations and all forms of eco-responsible events. The opportunity to celebrate the generosity of Mother Earth and to raise awareness of the sacred dimension of the Territory.

Agro-ecological micro-farm

Today the Mamajah Farm SARL is an agricultural model of a peri-urban farm in permaculture and agroforestry. The agronomic system imitates the forest where everything is recycled and nothing is lost and we continuously produce compost for our permanent vegetable beds located between tree mounds. Organic production, labeled BIO Bourgeon and Demeter, favors crop associations and the use of native varieties. For seven years, our natural practices have made it possible to restore this plot of former orchard transformed since the 1950s into a football pitch... Gradually, the soil is more and more resilient, inhabited by micro-organisms, worms earth and other benevolent auxiliaries.

Our weekly organic baskets

La Ferme de Mamajah is committed to providing their members with a varied weekly basket of seasonal organic vegetables grown biodynamically. Occasionally, a supplement comes from local partners, labeled BIO Demeter.

On our boards we grow a wide variety of vegetables: leaves (spinach, chard, celery, head salad, chicory, mesclun and other fresh herbs)... fennel, cabbage (green, red, kale, Chinese cabbage, cabbage -flowers, broccoli)... root vegetables: beets, parsnips, carrots, celeriac, radishes, turnips... various tubers (potatoes, sweet potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes) and seasonal fruit vegetables: zucchini, tomatoes, eggplant , beans ...

Contents and weight of the basket

This will not be defined in advance, but according to the availability of vegetables and the season; it is not adjustable. The contents of the baskets are generous; voluminous in spring (leafy vegetables), heavy in winter (root vegetables), it varies with the seasons and with the goodwill of Mother Nature! Thus, the idea is to think that the small basket corresponds to the consumption of 1 to 2 people and the large one to 3 to 4 people on average.

Examples:

In the spring : it is the meeting of the last vegetables for laying down, cabbage, carrots, turnips, potatoes; with spinach, salads and other fresh first shoots. Then comes the season of radishes, chard, the first fennel, etc.

In summer : beans, cucumbers, zucchini and of course all the variety of tomatoes and other delicious fruit vegetables will delight you.

In autumn and winter : make way for chicory with the famous sugarloaf salad and good soups to be made from leeks, squash, pumpkins and other root vegetables available.

Finally, welcome to the cardoons and quinces which will deliciously accompany the end of the year feasts.
